Biathlon Canada has launched it's fundraising campaign to generate funding to help support our athletes as they represent Canada on the world stage. From now until Giving Tuesday on December 3, with funds from a generous donor, Biathlon Canada will match up $20,000 in donations to support our athletes. Biathlon Canada is pleased to announce the outcomes of its Annual Meeting held on October 16, 2024, during which the Board welcomed two new Directors along with four returning Directors following an open nomination process to establish the slate for the upcoming two-year term. Biathlon Canada is also proud that with the election of this slate of candidates, it has strengthened its diversity and now meets its gender equity requirements of no more than 60% of its members being of one gender, highlighting six female and four male Directors. Biathlon Canada is proud to announce Cathy Tong as our new High Performance and Operations Manager. Cathy has an impressive career path which reflects her ability to build and lead programs from grassroots to high performance levels. She has worked in sport at the local, provincial and NSO level with organizations like Swim Alberta, Winsport Academy and most recently she held the role of High Performance Director and 2022 Olympic team Lead for long track at Speed Skating Canada. Cathy also is experienced as a coach in figure skating and has done work facilitating the development of strategic plans with provincial organizations. Cathy's skills and qualifications paired with her experience in Canada's sport system will be a great asset to the Biathlon Canada team.

The North American Summer Biathlon Championships in Jericho, Vermont on August 2-4 have been identified as an IBU Regional Event. With assistance from a grant from the IBU, Biathlon Canada has a budget of up to $4000 to offer a travel subsidy to encourage U22 athletes to compete at this event. There is a schedule upgrade to our Zone4 account where there will be no access to our Individual Membership or Club registration form starting midnight June 24 until 23:59 June 25th. If you are planning to engage in any biathlon activities that require you to be a member, please make sure you register in advance of the scheduled outage. Also, after the upgrade is complete it will be impossible to issue refunds for any registrations made before June 24. We ask everyone please ensure all registration information is correct and that you check your Zone4 receipts before the upcoming upgrades. Biathlon Canada is introducing several updates to its Hosting Policy for the 2024-2025 season. These updates will be presented at an online town hall on zoom on Monday, May 6 at 8pm Eastern Time. You can register for this town hall using the link below, and a zoom link will be sent on May 5 to everyone who has registered.

This past season one of our long time veteran athletes, Christian Gow, announced his retirement from biathlon. Christian is a 2-time Olympian, 2016 World Championship bronze medallist, and an 11 year National Team member with a biathlon career that spanned over 20 years. He has been a staple on the Canadian team and within international racing for many years, and he was an excellent role model for his teammates and all athletes across the country. Biathlon Canada, Nordiq Canada, Ski Jumping Canada and Nordic Combined Canada are working together on a joint outreach program to promote nordic sport in communities across the country called the Ski Playground Initiative. This past winter the initiative visited communities throughout the country to introduce youth and adults to one or all of the nordic disciplines, with an emphasis on exposure for minority groups. Biathlon Canada is pleased to publish the invitation for the 2024 Canadian Biathlon Championships. The event is scheduled to take place from March 26-31, 2024 at Hinton, Alberta. Biathlon Canada and the Organizing Committee are closely monitoring the snow conditions in Hinton. If the event is unable to proceed in Hinton due to snow conditions, a decision on relocation of the event will be made on or before March 8, 2024.
