How are Biathlon Canada, the Divisions & the Clubs Connected?
Biathlon Canada works together with its member Divisions (the provincial/territorial biathlon associations) to develop programs and services that can be delivered locally through clubs. Biathlon Canada establishes national standards and creates programs for achieving these standards in areas such as skill development, coaching, officiating and event organization. This includes writing and publishing manuals, developing and maintaining the Long Term Athlete Development Model and ensuring a drug-free environment.
Biathlon Canada also works behind the scenes to raise the profile of the sport through media and marketing initiatives, to disseminate information throughout the biathlon community and to establish high profile competitive events to showcase the sport. Biathlon Canada regularly interfaces with external partners (Sport Canada, Canadian Olympic Committee, Own the Podium, The Coaching Association of Canada, national sponsors & suppliers, etc.). All of this background activity helps to create a stronger sport system provincially and locally.
When athletes, coaches and officials from the various communities across Canada reach the national or international level of participation, Biathlon Canada manages and oversees their participation and their representation of Canada throughout the world which includes funding and operating two National Training Centres.
