World Cup 1 Wrap-Up

The first World Cup event of the season wrapped up in Oestersund, Sweden, yesterday, and was highlighted by several strong Canadian results. A look at the numbers indicates several personal-best, and other strong performances, including:

Julia Ransom – 9th Individual, 29th Sprint, 23rd Pursuit. First top-10 on World Cup, first time 3 times in the top-30 at same World Cup.

Scott Gow – 16th Sprint. Personal best World Cup result.

Christian Gow – 21st Pursuit. Personal best World Cup result.

Megan Bankes – 60th Sprint. First time qualifying for a World Cup Pursuit.

Christian Gow, Scott Gow, Nathan Smith – all three in top-30 in Sprint. Top-5 Nation’s Cup ranking in Sprint.

The season is indeed off to a strong start, as emphasized by National Team Head Coach Matthias Ahrens: “I’m very happy with our season opener in Oestersund; being isolated in Canada before the World Cup season it is always hard to predict where we are standing internationally. Given that we just traveled overseas, we showed some great results in Oestersund, especially on the shooting side. I am expecting the skiing form to improve in the next couple of weeks.”

The World Cup now moves to Hochfilzen, Austria, for World Cup 2. Competition begins Friday, December 8th.
