SECTION 2: Selection Process

NOTE: We are working under extremely tight timelines for flight bookings and rifle permits for JYWCH. Athletes will need to get back to us within 24 hours to confirm their roster positions. Positions for JIBUC #2 must be confirmed by January 15, 2019.

After each competition day, the High Performance Working Group (HPWG) will send a summary of current results (by Trial Ranking) to coaches with athletes competing in the Youth and Junior category. **NOTE that results from competition on January 3 will only be made available the evening of January 4.

January 7, 2019 (latest): Individual emails will be sent to impacted athletes (and their individual coach) offering a position on a team. Athletes must confirm/decline their position with the HPWG within 24 hours of receiving the email.

Within this response, athletes must provide the following information to Biathlon Canada:

  • Email address of athlete and parent (if Youth aged)
  • Phone Number
  • Home address
  • Rifle Serial Number
  • Full name as it appears on your passport
  • Date of Birth
  • Where the athlete will depart from in Canada on January 21 and where the athlete will arrive in Canada on February 4.
  • The athlete must send Biathlon Canada a picture of their passport and PAL immediately.
  • The athlete must have completed an IBU-approved anti-doping course within the past twelve months. Biathlon Canada will send the details to those athletes who must complete this course.

Once the teams have been confirmed, Biathlon Canada will post the results to the website.

SECTION 3: Wax Protocol

A wax protocol will be in effect for all athletes competing in Youth/Junior Selections and NorAm 4 in the youth M/W, Junior M/W, and Senior M/W categories. Please see the Race Invitation HERE for details.

On Wednesday, athletes participating in the Thursday competition (Junior and Youth), must drop their skis off between 16h00 and 17h00 to Wax Room #17.

On Friday and Saturday, athletes participating in Junior, Youth, and Men/Women categories on Saturday and Sunday must drop off their skis between 12h30 and 14h00 to Wax Room #17.

Erick Gosselin will be the lead Wax Tech for the competition and a member of staff from Biathlon Canada will supervise the process.

SECTION 4: Clarification on Sunday Pursuit

To clarify, please note that the pursuit on Sunday, January 6, 2019 will be normalized. This means athletes will depart at 5 second intervals, based on Saturday’s sprint race, but the athlete’s actual race time will be used, not their finish time, for the Trials ranking for WYJCH, JIBUC Tour 2, and NorAm 4.
