October 2 Update: The Biathlon Canada High Performance Working Group (HPWG) met this week to discuss necessary changes to the plan for the 2020-2021 season and team selection documents as a result of the IBU’s recent announcement (see below). The HPWG is currently working through a few different scenarios to ensure the adjusted plan meets our objectives and is reviewing the budget implications of the proposed changes. The revised NTP, AAP, and Team Selection documents will be published in the next seven to ten days.

On Saturday, September 26  the IBU made an announcement regarding the First  Trimester for the World Cup 2020-2021 season. In summary, this included the following updates:

  • International Biathlon Union today announced that four World Cup events will take place in the first trimester of the 2020/21 season as planned.
  • In order to minimize travel and protect athlete and stakeholder safety the first trimester World Cups will be hosted in just two venues: Kontiolahti, Finland and Hochfilzen, Austria.

The IBU Calendar page has been adjusted to reflect these changes.

Biathlon Canada published its NTP, AAP, and team selection documents on September 1, 2020. The IBU’s announcement today requires Biathlon Canada to make changes to these documents. As such, Biathlon Canada will take the following actions with the goals of maximizing the safety and health of all Biathlon Canada stakeholders and ensuring we are offering the best competition and development opportunities possible both internationally and in Canada.

  1. Biathlon Canada HPWG is meeting this week to discuss the necessary changes to the NTP, AAP, and Team Selection Documents  as necessary and highlight all edits made.
  2. We continue to work on and monitor the Biathlon Canada Domestic calendar for the 2020-2021 season. We have reached out to all Divisions in order to create contingency plans to be executed as restrictions are lifted/enhanced in Canada.

We will continue to make updates on our website HERE.
