Biathlon Canada is pleased to name our Jeux Canada Games PEI 2023 Technical Delegate (TD) – JEAN-GUY LEVESQUE
Jean-Guy has a colourful and experienced history in biathlon and will serve the Canada Games organization and biathlon wonderfully, we are happy to have him on board!
Jean-Guy’s biathlon story started in 1978 as a commanding officer of an Army Cadet Corps and has been jam-packed ever since – too many roles and events to mention here.
A few of the highlights are: His role as Canadian Forces Chief Referee for biathlon from 1993 to 2001. Competition chief biathlon and cross-country skiing – World Military Ski Championships – Valcartier – 1997. With Biathlon Canada, he became a qualified TD in 1986 and was appointed at that position for many national events. More recently, he was the chairman of the Organizing Committee for the 2016 Canadian Biathlon Championships.
On the international scene, Jean-Guy has been an IBU International Referee since 1991 and a member of the Technical Delegates Group since 1995. He was appointed IR at one World Championship and many World Cup events, TD for the World Military Ski Championships in 2011 in Sarajevo and at the IBU Cups held in Arber, Germany, in 2019. He was the chief of the Competition office at the World Cup in 2009 and during the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Whistler.
Jean-Guy was inducted to the Canadian Forces Sports Honor Roll in 2009, and awarded the Biathlon Canada June Hooper award in 2001 and Rudy Setz award in 2016.
In addition to the many positions and roles Jean-Guy has had in biathlon over the years, he is also known for his calm, knowledgeable and caring style of leadership and mentorship. He will be an excellent ambassador for biathlon at the 2023 Games and will help the organizing committee and Canada Games council to provide a top notch and successful event.
